I followed your tutorial to do my hair for a university ball, I have long very silky hair that always falls out after a few hours no matter the style. But, with your tutorial my hair stayed in place for over 6 hours and I had countless complements, this is now my go to hairstyle when I want to feel a bit extra and have my hair stay in place, thankyou so much!

My hair is so thin and fine so it looks really bad but it looks stunning on the mannequin! Wish I had thick hair like that :( any tips for how to make this style look nice with little hair?

Seems like this hairstyle would be very difficult to do on your own. I like to think that 1940s women helped each other to get ready, helping each other to get their hair and make-up just right. I hope that they had a little drink and a good giggle together as they got ready!

Out of all the vintage roll videos I like this one the best because it doesn’t use a hair rat, so it has a more modern, natural sensibility. I have been researching this style because I wanted something more symmetric than a French twist, more thoughtful than a messy bun, and less uptight than a braided bun while still being elegant. Because I prefer my hair to be off my neck, I make the ponytail a bit higher. Also, since I’m doing the style on myself I bought a 1990’s hair tool called a “Topsy Tail” that is like a giant needle that one threads the hair through. Finally, I secure the final, middle section with a French twist comb, but I recently ordered a gorgeous Victorian sterling silver mantilla comb for that job. I am still working on the techniques and trying to streamline the process for daily wear. I am working out issues with tightness and pulling in places, but I absolutely love how elegant it is! It is modest from the front, but from the back it’s queenly. I think this is particularly because the bottom-heaviness makes the neck look more shapely and the ears daintier. Thank you so much for posting this video! I’m afraid I would have given up on this style if you hadn’t showed us this alternative to the “rolling hair around a rat” method.
